Deep-cleaning appliance exteriors
Use the eye-level test.
Steps
- 1
Use the eye-level test: crouch and look along each surface at eye level — that is how you see grease film and drips a straight-on look misses.
- 2
Degreaser on the cloth for the extractor hood, the sides of the oven and the wall behind the hob. Leave it 2 minutes to work.
- 3
Wipe top down: hood, oven top edge, door, handle, then the plinth at the bottom.
- 4
Fridge: doors, handles, seals (cleaning toothbrush in the gasket folds), sides and the top.
- 5
Pull out freestanding appliances if it is safe, wipe the sides and the floor behind, then push them back.
- 6
Finish stainless steel with the grain and buff dry so no streaks are left.
Crouch down and look along the surface. Grease you cannot see standing up is obvious at eye level.
