Upholstery: general stains
Photo stepVideo laterAudio matters
Steps
- 1
Check the care tag first: W = water-based cleaner, S = solvent only, WS = either, X = vacuum only.
- 2
Vacuum the area with the upholstery tool before any liquid touches it.
- 3
Blot the stain with a dry white cloth, pressing not rubbing, from the outside inwards.
- 4
Test your cleaner on a hidden patch, wait, and check for colour transfer.
- 5
Apply a small amount to the cloth, blot the stain, then blot with a clean damp cloth to lift the product.
- 6
Press a dry cloth on the spot to draw moisture out and let it dry fully before anyone sits down.
Blot, never scrub. Scrubbing spreads the stain and fluffs the fibres so the patch shows forever.
